What Visitors Say
"Ivan, our guide, was very entertaining and knowledgeable. We have taken one of these tours 2 years ago but we still learnt something new other than revisiting the highlights. Ivan kept it at a very good pace and both parents and teenage daughters thoroughly enjoyed the 2 hours with him. Thank you!"
"Ivan was amazing! So knowledgeable and so engaging! For a family that does not love museums, this was a highlight of our trip for our visit to a must see museum! Thank you Ivan!"
"Megan was our guide today for our kids (14, 12 and 8). She was so knowledgeable and gave us the history of the Lourve and led us through the most important areas of the museum. We were able to see a ton, but most importantly, she kept all of our children engaged and helped them to understand the significance of the beautiful art we were viewing. The Lourve is impressive and overwhelming and I believe that having Megan guide us through the museum made it approachable for our family. 10/10 recommend!"
"our tour guide was incredible. He was helped us to carry our child and answered every question. His history knowledge was amazing. We will visit again and will take tour again"
"Ivan, our guide, was awesome. He catered the tour to our 12 year old daughter and made the 2 hr tour fascinating for all of us. Just wonderful."
"Ivan our guide was enthusiastic, knowledgeable and made the 2 hour tour entertaining for our 8 and 11 year old (us adults too). Would recommend."
"Frederic was an excellent guide. He was very friendly and good with small children. Excellent tour. I would highly recommend this tour!"
"The tour guide was FANTASTIC!! Ivan was very knowledgeable and funny. The meeting spot was a little sketchy, but otherwise a great experience!"

"Tour was great. Our guide Lucineide was on time, helpful, knowledgeable, and spot on in showing us selected and incredible master pieces with in depth details all in a couple of hours. An outstanding professional. Absolute worth and recommend."
"Excellent! What a wonderful experience for our whole family. We all loved it -teenagers included- and learned so much."
"Great and informative tour with Ivan!! Highly recommended."
"We had a great tour guide for our 2 hour "family" tour of the Louvre. There was a ton of traffic so we were running late but I was able to use the chat within the Get Your Guide app and someone was able to contact the local guide to let him know that we were on the way. Our guide led us to all of the major pieces (Venus de Milo, Hermaphrodite, Mona Lisa, Liberte, etc.) while providing interesting facts in a pretty concise way. He wasn't overly chatty but was happy to answer our questions. It was pretty crowded (and hot, not much air conditioning) so we kind of wanted to move through the rooms pretty quickly and I think the guide was able to read our body language so that was appreciated. He did the tour in English and it was very easy to communicate with him. I would recommend this for families with younger teens and up. My 15 year old enjoyed it and was interested but my 9 and 11 year olds were not very engaged."
"Despite some confusing communication prior to our tour (which we booked several weeks in advance), our tour guide Frederic was amazing. We already had a decent bit of French history under our belt and we were eager to learn more. Frederic was quickly onto this and structured the tour around amazing history and tying so many things in with what we already knew. Two hours (private tour) went by far too fast, but we were happy with every minute of this tour of the Louvre."
"With two kids 4 & 6 and four adults, Julie navigated us expertly through a fantastic experience. She was exceptional in her knowledge and accommodating to our questions, curiosities, and requests. This is absolutely the best way to see the Louvre!"
"Our guide Milan was excellent. With over 20 years experience, a great sense of humor and a love and command for the art in the Louvre, he made us wish we had booked a full day tour!"

Everything you need to know about booking a private Louvre guide.
A private Louvre tour is an exclusive guided experience for just your group (typically 1-8 people) with a dedicated expert guide. Unlike group tours, you set the pace, choose the focus areas, and ask as many questions as you like. Private tours are ideal for couples, families, special occasions, or anyone who wants an in-depth rather than overview experience.
Private Louvre tours start from around €120-150 for a 1.5-hour experience and go up to €300-400+ for a 3-hour in-depth tour. Per-person cost drops significantly for larger groups — a €250 tour shared by 4 people is €62.50 each, which is comparable to a premium group tour. Museum entry is usually included in private tour pricing.
Most private tours accommodate up to 8 people. Some can take up to 10-12. The practical sweet spot is 2-6 people — large enough to share cost, small enough that the guide can adapt dynamically to your group's interests. Private tours are especially popular with families (parents + children) and small groups of friends visiting together.
Yes — this is the main advantage of a private tour. Most guides will ask about your interests before or at the start of the tour. You can request: more time on Italian Renaissance paintings, focus on ancient Egypt, skip entire wings that don't interest you, or spend 45 minutes on a single work if you want. The guide shapes the experience around you, not a pre-set itinerary.
For couples and families, usually yes. The per-person cost difference is often smaller than it appears — a private tour at €250 for 4 people is €62.50 each, versus a premium group tour at €80-90 per person. What you gain: no keeping up with strangers, complete customisation, direct Q&A with your guide, and the ability to linger on anything that captures your attention.
Private tours are the best option for families with children. The guide can adapt the storytelling to the children's age — focusing on dramatic stories (the theft of the Mona Lisa, mummies, Napoleon) for younger children, and on technique and historical context for teenagers. Unlike group tours, there's no pressure to maintain pace with adult strangers. Most guides are experienced with children aged 6+. See our age-by-age Louvre family guide for a full recommendation by child's age.
Your guide will specify the exact meeting point in your booking confirmation — typically at the Carrousel du Louvre underground entrance (rue de Rivoli) or at the main pyramid. Most private tours include skip-the-line access so you enter through a reserved lane rather than the general queue. Arrive 10-15 minutes early to find your guide.
Absolutely — private tours are frequently booked for birthdays, anniversaries, and honeymoons. Some providers offer after-hours access (the Louvre on Wednesday and Friday evenings until 9:45 PM has excellent evening light and far fewer visitors). Mention any special occasion when booking so your guide can acknowledge it appropriately.
